Izabela BarnesMD, Anesthesiology
Izabela Barnes is a Medical Doctor and a Board-Certified Physician Anesthesiologist, member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, and the South Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists.
Born and raised in Brazil she obtained her medical school degree there in 2004. During that time she completed several academic studies abroad including at St Jude Hospital, University of Tennessee, the Children’s hospital Boston, MA and Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. She subsequently completed a 4-year residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in 2009 and made Charleston her home in 2010.
Dr. Barnes is passionate about providing safe and comfortable anesthetic care in the convenience and privacy of an office setting. She focuses on providing office-based anesthesia care for dental and medical procedures for both pediatric and adult patients. Dr. Barnes also works in the surgery center and hospital settings where she performs a wide array of anesthesia care. She is known for her compassionate and caring professionalism.
When she is not involved with patient care, Dr. Barnes enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, and her parents. She also enjoys exercising and being involved in the local church (Seacoast).
Dr. Barnes is also fluent in Portuguese.
Nicole CourtneyOffice Administrator, Patient Care Coordinator
As our patient and office coordinator, Nicole has been helping to establish patient relationships for nearly 16 years. From scheduling appointments, to coordinating treatment and arranging financial plans, she strives to make a patient’s experience as seamless and comfortable as possible. Nicole started her journey in dentistry when she became a clinical assistant for Dr. Hogan in 2006 and very much loved the interaction with patients. The clinical experience made her a very knowledgeable and well-rounded part of Dr. Hogan’s dental team.
Having grown up in the Lowcountry, Nicole appreciates everything it has to offer including beaching and boating. Nicole and her husband, Scott, have one son, Sully, age 9 who shares a passion for wakeboarding like his father.
Nicole has completed advanced training at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies in neuromuscular dentistry, hygiene, and occlusion.
Angie HolstonRegistered Dental Hygienist, Surgical Assistant
As a dental hygienist/assistant, Angie works together with Dr. Hogan to meet and exceed the needs of our patients. She has been an integral part of Dr. Hogan’s team for 18 years. Her favorite part of dentistry is providing a valuable healthcare service while establishing trusting relationships with patients.
As a native of Charleston, SC, Angie attended Trident Technical College where she obtained her Associate Degree in Applied Science majoring in Dental Hygiene. Following graduation in 1998, she became very active in the Charleston Dental Hygiene Association serving as Vice President and President from 1999-2003.
Angie has worked as both a dental assistant and dental hygienist during her 23-year career. She started her career as a surgical assistant in a periodontal practice where she loved helping patients return to a state of optimal oral health. Also had an integral role in treatment planning and assisting many comprehensive surgical cases. This experience has allowed her to work closely with Dr. Hogan on many advanced restorative/ surgical cases. Angie furthered her education with Dr. Hogan at Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies in neuromuscular dentistry, hygiene, and occlusion. She has a passion for helping patients return to health, renewing their confidence in their oral health.
Angie and her husband, Tommy, have 2 boys, Luke, age 19 and Ethan, age 17. Both of her sons share a passion for the sport of hockey and when they are not playing, the family enjoys boating, fishing, and relaxing at home.
Patty SturgisRegistered Dental Assistant
Patty is originally from Ocean City, MD and moved to Charleston in 2012 to pursue her dental career. After graduating Dental Assisting school in 2014, she has assisted and has had experience in the dental industry for over 7 years. Her warm personality is evident when caring for patients.
Aside from dental assisting, Patty also helps with front office administration and patient correspondence. Patty’s favorite part of dentistry is surgical assisting and creating relationships with patients. Patty and her boyfriend Alex, reside in Mt. Pleasant, and have a dog named Mulligan and a cat named Jeffery. They enjoy golfing, going to the beach, checking out new restaurants, traveling, and exploring all that Charleston has to offer.
Kris LiperoteRegistered Dental Hygienist
As our dental hygienist, Kris enjoys building patient relationships by making patients feel comfortable and educating them of the importance of dental health and its link to overall health and wellness. Kris enjoys the extensive training and many aspects of dentistry working for Dr. Hogan provides.
Kris was raised in Clemson, SC where she started working in her dad’s dental office at the age of 12. She moved to Charleston to attend college and has been a resident of Mt. Pleasant ever since. Kris attended Trident Technical College and graduated in 1992 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science majoring in Dental Hygiene.
Kris and her husband Doug have 2 daughters and 1 son, Delaney age 22, Kyle age 14 and Avery age 11. She enjoys spending time outdoors, exercising and cooking at home with her family.
Kris is currently studying Physiologic Based Dentistry through The Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies in neuromuscular dentistry, hygiene, and occlusion.
Samu HoganSmiles by Hogan Official Mascot
Samu was born on October 17th, 2019, in Rockford Illinois. She moved home to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina on December 1st, 2019, where she currently resides. Samu is a thoroughbred Hungarian Vizsla born to proud parents Oliver and Montana. Samu successfully completed extensive obedience and field training by Fathom K-9 and is undergoing continuing education under the guidance of Dr. Hogan, her loving father. She enjoys weekly trail hikes accompanied by the team at Brown Dog Walking Company. Samu’s true passion as an efficient, field-pointing dog is pointing pheasant, quail, and chukar. In her spare time, she enjoys long runs on the beach, playing, and sleeping, but her true passion is pointing game birds in the field.
